Playstation 2 (ps2) Repair Guide

INTRO:
You might wonder why your PS2 isn’t working. Well, if you’re getting Disc Read Errors
on multiple discs, all of which appear to be in good condition, then you most likely have
one of two common problems. Either your laser is being obstructed by dirt and dust, or
the laser’s voltage is not properly adjusted.
Please Note: That I have written this for people with little or no knowlege of electronics.

WARNINGS:
The Playstation 2 is a precise gaming console. Fixing the console yourself should not be
done unless completely necessary. You may also risk electric shock, so do anything
within your power to remain safe while attempting these repairs.
If you can, use an anti-static wrist band to ground yourself. This device is available at any
electronics store (e.g. Radio Shack.)
These repairs require opening the case, which WILL void your warranty. If your console
is still under warranty think twice about cracking the seal.
Adjusting the laser’s voltage requires some precision, being too rough can cause damage
which you will not be able to fix. Be very careful when doing this process!!! Be prepared
to pay Sony over $120 to fix this part if you damage it!!!
Always attempt the laser CLEANING before trying to adjust the voltage!!!!!!

DIAGNOSTIC MODE:
This is the easiest thing you can do to attempt to fix your PS2, while it hardly ever works
it only take a minute or two, and should be done first before you take apart your machine.
1) You must be in the "main menu" screen of the PS2 console, the first screen that comes
up when you start with no disc in.
2) press the "triangle button"
3) Select "Console" from the top using the up directional buttons and press the "Triangle"
button
4) Select "On" using the up and down directional buttons and press the "X" button
5) Insert a disc. The console automatically starts the diagnosis.

CLEANING THE LASER:
Required Materials:
-Normal phillips head screwdriver
-Small phillips head screwdrivver
-Q-Tip
-Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl)
Optional Materials:
-Can of Air
-Butter knife
Taking the PS2 apart is fairly simple, nothing too complicating. All that you’re basically
going to do is remove the upper shell, remove the lens cover, clean the lens, and put
everything back together again. Just be sure to follow the steps, and read through each
step and understand it before going through with it. Sometimes the instructions may seem
a little too in depth or complicating, but just use your common sense and you should
understand. It’s a lot easier if you print it out, as well.
1. Make sure that you have a neat, clean area set aside for taking the PS2 apart. A small
box or cup to put screws in. Flip your PS2 over so that the bottom (horizontally) is facing
up. There should be 6 screw covers, 4 plastic and 2 rubber, that need to be removed. You
can use the butter knife for this. Screws should be uncovered under them. There should
be 2-4 more screw covers on the outer side of the base, underneath the controller ports
(where the system goes out a few inches from the base). The older model PS2’s have 4
screw covers, while the newer ones have only 2. Remove them all, and you should now
have a total of 8-10 screws unveiled. Set the screw covers aside.
2. Using the normal sized phillips head screwdriver, remove all of the screws.
REMEMBER where the longer screws go. If you do not remember where the long
screws go, you could put a hole through a circuit board by trying to force the long screw
in where it is not supposed to be. Make sure all of the screws are removed, and put them
aside.
3. The PS2 shell should now be ready to remove. ONLY the UPPER side (with the PS2
logo) needs to be removed to clean the lens - Leave the BOTTOM side on. But, be very
careful when taking the upper shell off, or you could damage the PS2. To take the shell
off, you first should place the PS2 horizontally, with the PS2 logo facing up. Next, you
need to move the side of the shell out a little, sideways, so that the Eject/Reset buttons are
not blocking the shell, and it can be lifted off. Just play around with it a little and you
should get it. Then, lift it at an angle, like opening the cover of a book. Take the bottom
(Vertically) of the shell, with the PS2 logo on it, and lift it an angle. You should notice a
small wire around the area where the Reset/Eject buttons are. The wire should be taped to
the top of the Lens cover. Remove the tape, and then carefully lift the cover so that it is
laying flat, and the PS2 is open like a book, connected at the middle by the wire. The
Lens is now almost accessible.
4. To gain access to the lens, you need to remove the lens cover. The lens cover is located
right in the area where the PS2 ejects the tray out, just above the tray. It’s square shaped,
and has a small white circle piece on it. To remove the lens cover, simply take out the 2-4
screws located on the side with the small screw driver. Place the screws aside, and lift the
lens cover. You should now see the lens, a small circular glass piece located in the back
of the disc tray.
***Optional***
Now comes the optional part. If you have a Can of compressed Air, you can use that to
get all of the dust out of the PS2. Spray all around the area, especially the fan. You don’t
need to remove anything, just spray. When it seems that the dust is removed, go on to
step 5.
5. Now, the lens can finally be cleaned. Take the Q-Tip and swab it generously in the
rubbing alcohol, but make sure that there’s not too much on it so that it’s dripping. Take
the Q-Tip and carefully yet firmly rub the lens in a circular motion for a good 30 seconds.
Then, flip the Q-Tip over to the dry side and dry it off in the same circular motions. The
lens should now be clean.
6. All that’s left now is putting the PS2 back together, which should be fairly easy. Place
the lens cover back on, making sure that it’s tight and snug in position. Screw it in place.
Then, tape the wire back onto the lens cover and flip the shell back into place on the PS2.
Screw the screws back in, making sure the longer screws are going into the correct holes.
The screws don’t all have to be tight, so don’t sweat it if 1 or 2 of them aren’t seeming to
fit into the holes all of the way, as long as they’re in the right holes. Put the screw covers
back into place, and you’re done. Congratulations, your PS2 is now cleaned, and working
like new, without having to spend a dime! Feel free to repeat this process in the future, as
well, if Disc Read Errors ever occur again.

DO I NEED TO ADJUST THE VOLTAGE?
To determine whether or not these repairs are necessary, read the following carefully...
You may need to adjust the voltage if:
1. Your PS2 reads games on DVDs but will not read games on CDs
2. Your PS2 reads games on CDs but will not read games on DVDs
3. Your PS2 will read no games, you have already cleaned the laser and you are using
undamaged discs
Do not adjust the voltage if:
1. You do not receive the message "Disc Read Error" in the browser screen when trying
to load problem discs
2. You have a Playstation 2 Version 4 or higher: a PS2 with 8 screw covers on the bottom
rather than 10.
3. Your PS2 only gets errors on certain CD or DVD games, not All CD or DVD games.
Try cleaning the problem disc, or using a Disc-Doctor
4. You receive "error reading CD" during games such as GTA3/VC or other games that
stream data (clean the laser in this case)
please note that fine tuning may be needed if your PS2 reads CD games but not
audio/PS1 CDs (or vice versa)... Or if your PS2 reads DVD games but not DVD movies
(or vice versa)... Personally I don’t suggest fine tuning without a voltage meter.

CLICKING AND SQUEAKING EXPLAINED
Clicking is most likely the laser unit moving back and forth trying to access a piece of
data. If it can’t find that data it will move back and forth until it does. In the case of a
DRE (Disc Read Error), since the PS2 never finds that data it will continue clicking until
you receive the error.
In case clicking is loud, or you hear squeaking, it might be a good idea to clean the slide
rods that the laser rides on, and then add some oil or grease.
Loud clicking can be the result of warped discs in the drive, check to see if your disc is
warped if you get loud clicking.

ADJUSTING THE VOLTAGE:
Read these instruction all the way through, and make sure you understand all the steps
before doing anything!
1. Remove your warranty sticker, located next to the power cord. Take off the cover to
the expansion bay.
2. Remove the screw covers on the very bottom of your playstation 2. There are six total.
Four of them will be rubberized and two will be plastic. You may need a flat head
screwdriver to remove the plastic ones. Ignore the extra 4 plastic covers on the raised,
upper portion of the underside of your PS2, these are for removing the top shell.
3. With a phillips-head screwdriver remove the six screws under the covers you just took
off. Four short and two long.
4. Pull up on the bottom portion of the case to remove it.
5. Remove the metal shield covering the circuit board (the shiny one). With the front of
the PS2 facing toward you, it is on the right. There is only one screw holding it in place.
6. Remove the expansion bay plate (the dull one with holes). With the front of the PS2
facing toward you, it will be on your left. Once again there is only one screw holding it in
place.
If you still get disc read errors after about 20 degrees of rotation, put the screw back to
the 12 o’clock position and start moving the screw clockwise two degrees at a time.
It may take a while, but you will most likely find the sweet spot where your discs begin
to read again. I have never had to move the screw more than 30 degrees, although I have
heard as much as 180 degrees are needed for a modded PS2 to play backup CD-Rs.
12. Try a few different trouble discs before re-assembly to make sure you dont need more
fine adjustment. As well, hold the PS2 elevated in the horizontal position and make sure
it reads while in this position. I have found that slightly more voltage (2-6 degrees) is
needed to run discs in the horizontal position than the vertical position.
13. Turn off the PS2 and re-assemble it.

Turn Your Grill Into A Smoker!

Be sure to soak wood chips in water for 30 − 60 minutes
before putting on the grill.
When using gas grills it’s best to put presoaked wood chips in a
smoker box or wrap them in a piece of aluminum foil with a lot of
holes in it. This keeps your grill from filling up with ash and clogging
the jets. If you are using a charcoal grill or smoker then you can
just put the wood directly on the coals (once they’ve heated up).
If you haven’t used wood before, start small. Use a 1/4 cup of
presoaked chips on your grill and see what is does for you. One of
the great things about barbecue is the wide variety of experimentation
available to the backyard cook. Wood is a great tool so don’t be
afraid to use it.
You can make a homemade smoker box by using a tin can. Poke
some holes in the can, then open the lid not quite all the way and
fill with wood chips that have been soaked in water for an hour.
Position the can on the coals before grilling. Wait a little bit until
the wood starts smoking, and commence with grilling.

Worcestershire sauce, and mustard; pour over meat and vegetables.
Cover and marinate overnight in refrigerator. Remove meat and
vegetables from marinade, reserving marinade. Alternate meat and
vegetables on skewers.
Soak Apple Wood Chips in water for 30 minutes. Prepare fire in grill.
When the grill is up up temperature, add wood chips; let them start
smoking. Grill kabobs 5 minutes on each side over coals or until desired
degree of doneness, brushing frequently with marinade.

Pierce meat deeply all over with fork.
Place in shallow dish and top with green onions, garlic, green pepper,
celery, oregano, rosemary and cayenne.
Combine worcestershire, burgundy and oil and pour over meat. Refrigerate
overnight, turning meat several times, each time spooning the chopped
ingredients over top again.
Sear both sides over glowing coals. Raise grill and continue cooking,
having meat about six inches from heat, until done as desired. Allow from
50 to 60 minues for total cooking time. Brush frequently during cooking with
any remaining marinade.

oregano, pepper and garlic in a small bowl. Brush the mixture evenly on the
steaks, refrigerate.
Brush the grill lightly with oil. Light the coals or gas grill. Soak the
apple wood chips in water for about 45 minutes. When the coals turn white
add the wood chips. When the chips start to smoke place the steaks on the
grill rack and cook turning once, about 5 to 6 minutes per side, or until
the steaks flake when tested with a fork.

skewer. Combine all ingredients in saucepan and cook over medium to
low heat, stirring, until butter is completely melted. Dip skewered prawns
in the orange sauce and position on oiled grill rack about 4 inches above
the coals. Baste liberally with sauce and grill for 2 minutes. Turn the
prawn over and baste again, cooking for another 2 minutes. Smaller
prawn will be done at this point, but continue basting and turning larger
prawn until they are pink and cooked through. Remove from heat
immediately when done, as they will get tough if overcooked. Use any
remaining sauce for a dip for the prawns.

Mediterranean Grilled Vegetables

1 pound Large onion
1 pound Red bell pepper
1 pound Green bell pepper
1 pound Yellow squash
1 pound Zucchini squash
1 cup Olive oil
1/3 cup Italian seasoning

peppers, remove core, and cut in large top−to−bottom pieces. Trim ends
from squash and cut in diagonal rounds, about 1/2" thick. Toss all
vegetables in a large bowl with olive oil and seasoning, breaking up the
onion wedges somewhat. Place in a single layer on a very hot grill
(watch out for the flare−ups!) and grill, turning occasionally, until peppers
are slightly charred and veggies are tender (about 5 minutes).
Serve immediately. These are also good refrigerated, then microwaved
to reheat.

Prepare a medium−hot fire in the grill. Coat the leeks with olive oil.
When the coals are covered in gray ash add the presoaked chips to the fire.
When the chips start to smoke place the leeks and peppers on the cooking
grid directly over the fire.
Grill, turning as needed, until leeks are tender and golden brown, about
10−12 minutes, and skin of peppers is charred, about 15 minutes. Remove the
leeks from grill and let cool. Remove the peppers from the grill and place
in a paper or plastic bag and seal; set aside and allow to steam.
When cool, trim root ends from leeks, then cut into thin strips. Peel and
seed bell peppers and cut into thin strips.
Meanwhile, heat a large pot of water to boiling.
Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and cook,
stirring frequently, until pale golden. Add vermouth, and reduce to syrupy
consistency. Stir in leeks and peppers and season with salt and pepper.

The Large Party - Party Games

The Large Party - Party Games
Getting people of the world to have fun together

Party Games for Large Groups (more than 8 People)
Dramatized Chinese Whispers
Specially suitable for teenagers
Several people are taken out of the room. One is returned and while the others are entertained by an assistant is told to mime one of the following (or one of your own ideas)
• Changing the nappies of twins
• Bathing an elephant
Before they start, a second person is brought into the room and told to watch. When the first demonstration has been completed, the first person is allowed to retake their place and the second is told that they have to do what they have just seen. Again, before they start, the third person is brought in to see the demonstration. The games ends when the last person has done the mime, and is asked what they have just done.

NOT Dramatized Chinese Whispers
Specially suitable for teenagers
This is a vindictive version of Dramatized Chinese Whispers. One person is taken out of the room and told to mime a duck landing on a frozen lake! Meanwhile, an assistant is telling the remainder of the party guests what they are about to see, and to guess anything else (to encourage the person to continue their mime). The victim is brought back to do their mime. When they have finished, the organizer gets everyone to 'guess' the right answer in unison. It may be appropriate to congratulate the victim with the words. "Well Done ... You certainly have been."

Musical Chairs
The old favourite. With one fewer chairs than people, a short snippet of music is played while the people move around the room. When the music stops
everyone tries to sit on a vacant chair. (Only ONE person per chair) The person who doesn't find a chair is out. One chair is taken away and the game continues until only one person (The Winner) is left.

Horses and Riders
Specially suitable for teenagers
Like Musical Chairs, but the young gentlemen are the horses and the young ladies are the riders. There is one fewer gentlemen than ladies. When the music stops, the ladies have to climb on the backs of the gentlemen. Again, the winners are the last complete couple.

Guess the Picture
A Good game to get people talking together at the start of the party
Collect a set of pictures of your town / locality / personalities etc. and display them on the wall with a number. The guests have to identify them and write the name on a sheet of paper. The winner is the one with the highest score.

Stations
Everyone stands a circle (except one who is standing in the middle) and has been told to remember a different station name. The person in the middle calls out two names. The stations have to change places quickly, before the person in the middle can get to one of the empty spaces. Who ever is left without a place is the person in the middle for the next game.

Who am I
A Good game to get people talking together at the start of the party As they arrive each person has a piece of paper pinned to their back. The paper contains the name of a famous person. By asking questions which can only be answered with "Yes" or "No" such as "Am I still alive?", "Am I fictional?", etc. the person has to guess their name. Successful guessers may have another go.

Bigamy
One Gentleman takes three chairs arranges them in a large circle, along with all the other men. Each
gentleman then collects two ladies and seats them in his chairs, one on his right side, and the other on his left. One lady is then removed. from the circle. The gentleman who now only has one wife, must now go steal one from another by winking, waving etc. But without letting her gentleman know. She must then dash to the empty ladies' chair and the gentleman return to his own place. If she makes it half way across the room before the previous gentleman stands up and catches up with her, she takes her place with her new gentleman, and her previous one now has to replace the missing wife.

Mummies
Split the patry goers into teams of three and give each team a toilet roll. Two persons then wrap the third in the toilet roll so that they look like an Egyptian Mummy. The winning team is the one who in a set time (say 2 minutes) have the neatest and most covered Mummy.

Fashion Designer
This is like "Mummies" but instead of having toilet paper and having to wrap the 'victim' to look like a mummy, you give each team part of a (not ready pasted) wall-paper roll, and 12 safety pins and they have to make an 'outfit', in say 5 minutes. If you wish, you may specify "A dress", "Jacket and trousers", etc. (The paper may be pinned on the person's normal clothes, rather than having to make the 'outfit' and then they have to put it on.)

Soldiers
Take all the girls out of the room and tell them that the room has a line of soldiers who are willing to demonstrate their skills of quick and slow firing. Tell the boys to form a line (shoulder to shoulder) away from the door. (Optionally turn the lights down or out.) In turn, each girl is asked if she would like the demonstration of quick or slow firing. Having answered, the door is opened and she is pushed into the room, and her answer is shouted to the boys. If she opted for quick firing, the boys give her a quick kiss before pushing her onto the next in line, as quicklty as possible. Slow firing allows the boys a longer kiss.

Pass the Orange
Arrange for teams of about 8 to stand in a line, one behind the other (arranged boy, girl, boy,...). Give each team an orange which the first person should tuck under his chin. This should be passed to the person behind. When the orange gets to the last person, they come to the front of the line and start again. The winnnig team is the first one which gets their starting person to the front again.

Pass the Key
You need two similar sized Very Large Keys (about 6 inches long), each tied to the end of a long length (60 feet or more) coarse string. The keys and string should have spent a few hours in the freezer immediately before being brought out. Line up two teams of about eight to ten. The key must be passed down trousers and dresses and skirts and the string will show the route followed. The winning team is the first to get everyone 'threaded.

Pass the Anything
Arrange teams of players in lines and give the first person on each line a object to be passed in a given fashion. Suggestions include:-
• A stick of spaghetti. to be held in the mouth. (A variation is to break off a piece as you pass it.)
• A credit card to be sucked to your lips.
• A coin to be held between the first person's nose, and the next person's nose, while they walk around the back of the line and back to the front again. The first person goes to the back of the line, and the game continues, with a new 'next person'.

Guest at the Party
Three people are taken out of the room and each is given a card describing a person (or personality or characteristic). A fourth person is nominated as "Host". One by one, the three guests enter the room portraying what is written on their card. The Host has to guess what was written on the card. The guests do not have to wait until the previous one has been identified before entering. Ideas include:-
• An Astronaut
• James Pond (Spoof Secret Agent)
• A Blue Peter Presenter
• Harvey Smith (Show Jumper)
• Dipsey (one of the Teletubbies)
• A policeman going to the ball

Honey, if you love me smile
Have all players except for one sit in a circle facing each other. The one who is not in the circle faces a player of the opposite sex and requests "Honey, if you love me smile." Aside from tickling, the player may do anything to make the person smile. After a while the chosen partner must reply "Honey, I love you but I just can't smile" without smiling.
If the player chosen partner smiles while saying this, then they must give their place, and it becomes their turn to choose a partner.

Improvisation
Form teams of two. Each team is given an object to perform with, in as many creative ways as possible. E.g. A hoola-Hoop
• Hold it above your head and sing "Hark the Herald Angels sing"
• Hold it in front of you and say "You get a good view of the Icebergs from this portthole"
Ideas for objects include:-
• Hoola Hoop
• Malibu Board
• Tennis Racket
• Football
• Lampshade

Winking Murder
All except the detective sit in a circle while the detective waits outside. One person from the circle is elected to be the murderer, and then the Detective is called back to stand in the circle. When he is ready, the Murderer winks at people in the circle. Anyone who sees that they have been winked at lets out a blood-curdling scream and dies. The Detective has
three attempts to guess the murderer.

Pins
Game Instructions, this is a game for a large crowd of people to get them talking. Give each guest a pin and have them pin it on their shoulder. Instruct everyone they cannot use the words, yes or yea, etc. When they do, the person they said this to gets their pin(s). the person then adds the pin(s) to their other pin(s), the person with ALL the pins at the end of the evening wins (an elastoplast).

Ducky Ducky
Everyone sits in a circle except one who is given a pillow and blind-fold. They then go and place the pillow on a persons lap, sit on it and say ducky ducky. The person should say"quack quack" this can be done only 3 times. If the blind person guesses the name the person, they should now be given the blind fold and the game run over again - after everyone has changed their places.

Quit Smoking With Exercise

When you decide to stop smoking, you'll bring on
other changes in your life as well.  Smoking is a
very addictive habit, meaning that it is very hard
to quit.  There are a lot of changes that take place,
although exercise can be a big help to you when you
decide to quit.

Try to set a new routine, such as working out or
going to the gym.  If that isn't possible, you
should try waking up earlier and going for a short
walk.  If you can turn that walk into a run or a
jog, it is going to be very stimulating and the best
way that you can start your day.

Keep in mind that exercise doesn't really mean
pumping metal.  If you don't have the time to stop
by the gym every day, then it isn't really that big
of a problem, as you can always choose to workout
at home.

Whether you choose to workout at home or at a gym,
you should always remember that regularity is the
key.  It isn't getting started that's the difficult
part, it's sticking to a regular exercise program
that is difficult and proves to be stumbling block
for most people.

Some people have a great start.  They will buy
track suits, gym wear, running shoes, and a lot
of other gear, so their first day at the gym is
almost like a celebration.  As the days go by,
they find it very difficult to meet the demands
and their routine will slow down a lot and finally
come to a complete exercise burnout.

One mistake that several people make is choosing
the evenings to exercise.  If evenings fit your
lifestyle, then it's fine.  For most people however,
the evening hours are when they are completely
pooped.  By the evening most of us are drained,
and simply too tired for exercise.  Therefore, it
is always best to set some time aside for exercise
in the morning.

In the morning, wake up a half an hour or so
earlier, put on your shoes, and hit the road.  Most
roads are less crowded in the morning and less
polluted as well, making it a wonderful and relaxing
way to start the day.

You should also steer clear from the coffee and try
tea instead.  If you are moving around in the house,
try playing music.  You can also redecorate your
room by adding a few pictures around.  When you
redecorate, you should get rid of everything
that reminds you of smoking.

Plan your day where you'll have something fun to
do at the end of the day.  It doesn't need to be
something that involves money, as you don't want
to end up bankrupt.  Spending time with family,
playing games, or going for a walk with your
family are all good activities.

Watching television doesn't really fit into the
list.  The reason is because television isn't
something that demands a lot of attention.  You
can easily do something else while you are
watching television.

You should also make a list of things that build
up your stress and try to avoid them.  If it
isn't possible, you should try to find out some
some ways to bust stress and use them.  Whatever
you do, you shouldn't use stress as an excuse
to start smoking.

There are many other methods that you can use to
beat stress.  You can try breathing exercises,
mediation, or even music.  Another great way to
beat stress is using the distressing ball.  If
you don't have one or access to one, you can
always wiggle your fingers and toes.  This too
is a great and natural method to beat stress.

Why You Should Use HD Cameras

If you own a camera, as millions of us around the world
do, your probably aware of the fact that there are
many to choose from.  The cameras of the past were
black and white, enabling you to take a black and
white photograph that printed out from the camera
right in front of your eyes.

From then, cameras evolved.  Digital cameras came
out later on, which the ability to put them on your
computer or even take your camera card to a local
store and have the photos printed out on professional
paper.  Over the years, cameras have evolved in so
many ways that it isn't even funny.

These days, high definition video cameras are
dominating the market.  They are relatively new and
quickly catching on, giving you so much you can do
with your camera.  Unlike the past, cameras are
now capable of capturing full videos as well, proving
that they are indeed capable of capturing any
memory you can possibly imagine.

High definition video cameras also offer you 20X
zoom lens or more, meaning that you can zoom in
quite a distance on things that you want to capture
up close and personal.  For the most part, you can
do things with these cameras that you may have
never before thought possible.

When you capture a picture or video with high
definition cameras, you'll be very amazed at what
you see.  Just like HDTV, the pictures of the
camera are very lifelike.  If you have a newborn
baby, a high definition video camera may be just
what you need to capture each and every precious
moment.  For this reason and many more, you
shouldn't hesitate to get a high definition video
camera - that is if you don't own one already.

Atkins for Dieting

Atkins for Dieting

Most people around the world by now have heard of the Atkins diet. It has been one of the most highly touted and highly controversial diets of our time. Those who love it have nothing but great things to say about it but those who are critical are not shy about their opposition either. The largest criticism when it comes to the Atkins, or low carb diet would be the near absence of whole grains, which are considered the cornerstone to a healthy diet by many.

Dieting with the Atkins diet involved eliminating a large degree of carbohydrates from your diet. In the past there hasn't been as much of an emphasis on fitness and exercise with the Atkins diet as there seems to be currently. This is good news however as an active fitness regime is as essential to successful weight loss as cutting calories and in this case cutting carbohydrates.

You should take great caution that you are getting accurate information when it comes to Atkins dieting if this is something you are considering in order to meet your fitness and weight loss needs. There is a great deal of misleading and incorrect information that is floating around out there when it comes to the Atkins diet and weight loss plan. First of all, weight loss is the direct result of burning more calories than you consume. It doesn't matter how many or how few carbs you enjoy or deny yourself during the day if at the end of the day you've consumed a few thousand calories too many.

The notion that you can eat anything you want during the day as long as there are no carbs is simply incorrect. Calories still put on the pounds whether you are using the Atkins plan for weight loss or not. That being said there are some interesting insights in this diet and a good man of the foods that are eliminated are those that have the most complex sugars for the body to dispose of. For this reason there are many who have followed the honest to goodness plan to tremendous results.

If you are considering dieting with the Atkins plan you should realize that this is a lifelong commitment in order to achieve the maximum benefit of the plan. There will be lesser restrictions as you reach the maintenance phases of the plans but you are making a conscious decision to pretty much sacrifice a good deal of the carbohydrates that many of us have enjoyed throughout our lives. This is a concept that is much easier said than done over an extended period of time and especially in a society when most of us cannot commit to a mate for that long.

At any rate, dieting with the Atkins plan has produced results for a good deal of people around the world. The news of these results has made it one of the most talked about, tested, and tried systems for dieting on the planet and many people have mixed reviews. Those who love it and feel that it is effective are enthusiastic in its support though those that are honest will admit that you do feel as though you are sacrificing a good deal for the sake of your dietary needs. Those who hate it hate it, and there is nothing that is going to change their opinion. The only way to know for sure is to try for yourself.

Dieting for Weight Loss

Dieting for Weight Loss

The most common reason that people cite for dieting today is weight loss. While most of us would love to claim the noble mantle of dieting for health the vast majority of us are doing so for vanity. This, however, is a perfectly acceptable and plausible reason for making the lifestyle changes that are necessary in order to diet. In fact, this reason might prove to be a far greater motivator than many of the other commonly stated reasons for dieting.

When dieting for weight loss one of the most common complaints is constantly feeling hungry. In order to help combat this, you might want to incorporate some of the following strategies into your dieting program. First of all, eat more high fiber foods. Whole grains, apples, pears, and lima beans are a great source of fiber as are many breakfast cereals. Easy does it however when it comes to fiber as it may be filling but there are some unpleasant side effects that may accompany heavy fiber eating (remember that beans are a good source of fiber). Try using a product such as Bean-o when consuming larger amounts of fiber. You might also try spreading your fiber intake throughout the day rather than consuming all your daily fiber at once.

Another method for feeling fuller when dieting is to drink plenty of water while dieting. Water provides an important service to the body and is very necessary when it comes to delivering all the nutrients where they need to go. Water also helps regulate your metabolism, which is very important to the dieting and weight loss process. Additionally, water will help you skin retain its elasticity so that your skin can go more easily back into place once the serious weight loss begins.

Learn to control your portions. We live in a world where portions are over inflated and super sized so often that we no longer know what an appropriate portion looks like. Restaurant meals are quite often more than adequate for at least two full meals and that is before salads, soups, appetizers, or desserts have been ordered. Learning to portion correctly can save you from over loading your calorie intake for the day massively. It can also help you get extra helpings of the lower calorie foods such as lettuce and other vegetables rather than taking such large portions of calorie rich starches or fried foods.

Do not go "Gung Ho". There are limits to what the body and the mind can handle. When you go on a diet you are making a drastic change to your bodies caloric intake. If you go overboard you can lead to health risks along the way. Begin cutting calories a little at a time and incorporate changes as you go rather than going in with an all or nothing attitude. If you go overboard with your dieting plans chances are that you are dooming your diet to failure.

Take your diet one step at a time for the best results and be sure to incorporate extra physical activity into the mix. Even gardening when done on a regular basis can burn calories, so can cleaning the house, and playing with the little ones. Take a walk to the park or the corner store rather than getting in the car and pull a wagon or push a stroller while you're at it. The added weight will be just enough resistance to burn a few extra calories.

Dieting for weight loss does not necessarily have to be a major sacrifice on your part but in order to be successful it will be a radical change in lifestyle, particularly if you need to lose more than a few vanity pounds. The health implications of loosing the weight are well worth the required effort and should not be taken lightly no matter how excited you are about your new body that is hiding inside your old one.

Dieting for Health

Dieting for Health

There is no greater reason to diet than for your personal health and well being. Those of us who are overweight know better than most the risks and possible consequences that may result because of our weight. Much like smokers however, the risks do not always seem quite so cut and dry until we reach our very own turning point. Whether your eating habits are born of an addiction to certain foods, an emotional need, or years of learned behavior and conditioning things will not change until you completely adjust your eating habits and your lifestyle choices.

Dieting for many has become a lifestyle in and of itself with people rapidly flip-flopping or yo-yoing from one diet to another with little success and growing despair over a sheer lack of results. The truth is that until you decide to forgive yourself for your failures and get right back on the wagon, so to speak, after falling off no diet is going to be successful. A simple diet isn't going to magically make the pounds disappear and constantly depriving yourself of those things you enjoy most may have a more detrimental effect than a positive effect.

The number one thing most people need to learn is that dieting isn't always a good thing. What most people who are overweight need more than anything else is to incorporate positive lifestyle changes into their daily routines. People scoff at the notion of taking the stairs or parking farther away and yet those are perfectly plausible methods of working a little more physical activity into your day. If those do not work for you how about learning to dance? Seriously, there are beginner dance classes in most communities that will welcome and invite dances of all ages, sizes, and fitness levels if you are willing to make the effort. What a great way to get fit, learn something new, and have fun without filling deprived.

Another great thing about an activity such as a dance class (consider ballroom dancing with your significant other) is that you are not eating or tempted to eat during the time that you are dancing in most cases. Another great thing is that you are burning those calories you didn't eat. If dancing isn't you thing, try joining a walking club or finding another hobby. Anything that gets you on your feet and away from the temptation of your refrigerator is a good thing when it comes to dieting and weight loss. You cannot lose a significant amount of weight by dieting alone. You must incorporate physical fitness into your daily routine in order to achieve those immediate and visually stunning results that many dieters are hoping to achieve.

Another pitfall when it comes to dieting is that people give up far too quickly. Just as the results are beginning and progressing people get tired of the process or frustrated that they aren't accomplishing enough dramatic weight loss as quickly as they had hoped and give up all together marking off yet another failure when they could have achieved greater success than ever before if they had stuck with their original diet plan a little longer.

One more thing you should remember when it comes to dieting is that the scale can be your best friend or your worst enemy when dieting. If you are weighing yourself every day in hopes of watching the scale tick off yet another pound you are dooming yourself to failure. You will never achieve the results you are hoping for you if you are going into depressive bouts of Rocky Road or Chunky Monkey every night because you didn't lose 10 pounds overnight.

When it comes to dieting there are very few diets that work. There are however, many lifestyle changes that when practiced consistently and aggressively will work. The thing to remember is that you are the one who must work because it is quite unlikely that any diet will.

Childrens party Games

Chinese whispers
Sit everyone in a circle. Whisper a long phrase to one person. They, in turn, whisper what they heard to the next person, and so on. The last person announces what they heard.

Pass the Parcel
Wrap a bar of chocolate (or some other gift), in a layer of paper. Now wrap it in another layer and repeat until you have about 10 layers. Finally wrap it in gift paper (so it looks nice). Sit everyone in a circle and play a short snippet of music. When the music stops, the person holding the parcel removes ONE layer of wrapping. Repeat until the last layer of wrapping has been removed. The winner keeps the present.

Pass the Parcel with forfeits
As above but every layer contains a forfeit (E.g Sing a song, Eat a teaspoon of Mustard, have your belly button filled with water).

The Chocolate (or Jelly) Game
Sit everyone in a circle and place a tray in the middle with a hat, scarf, gloves, knife and fork, die and a wrapper bar of chocolate. In turn, players throw the die. If they throw a SIX, they must put on the Hat, Scarfe and Gloves before they start to unwrap the chocolate with the knife and fork, ad then start to eat it. To speed up the game add a second die and require a Double SIX. The Jelly Variation is to turn out a set jelly onto a plate and eat it with the knife and fork.

Musical Chairs
The old favourite. With one fewer chairs than people, a short snippet of music is played while the people move around the room. When the music stops everyone tries to sit on a vacant chair. (Only ONE person per chair) The person who doesn't find a chair is out. One chair is taken away and the game continues until only one person (The Winner) is left.

Memory Game
On a tray, place about 10 to 15 small items (e.g. pencil, watch, comb, shoe lace, spoon, toy car, etc.) and cover with a cloth. Sit everyone in a circle. Place the tray in the middle of the circle and remove the cloth for 60 seconds. Everyone has to remember the objects. When the time is up, replace the cloth. In turn, each person has to name an object on the tray. The first person to fail to name an object, repeat an object or name something not on the tray is out. The tray is then removed and some or all of the objects replaced, and the game re-started with the person following the one who is out. If the game is too easy for the group, add more objects or reduce the time.

Musical Statues
This is like Musical Chairs, but when the music stops, the players have to keep still. Anyone who moves, quivers, shakes etc is out. The winner is the last one still playing.

Listen and Move
Place party shapes on the floor in a circle. For example if your theme is Knights the shapes could be shields, swords, and castles. Children walk around circle while listening to music. If the music is loud the children move fast. If the music is quiet the children move slow. If the music stops, the children stop on the closest shape. Young children like to play it this way.
To make it more challenging for older children have 1 less shape than the number of children. Continue remove shapes as the children are 'out'.

Postman's Knock
All the boys gather in a group and each takes a card with a sequential number (One, Two, Three etc). The girls do the same. The boys then form a line (shoulder to shoulder) facing the girls who are in a similar line. (Players should NOT stand in order. First a girl calls out a number and the boy with that number goes across to kiss her. The a boy calls out a number and the girl with that number goes and kisses him.

Port and Starboard
On the command (from the list below) the children have to do the appropriate action. After a while, start removing the last player to comply, untill only one remains.
• Port (Run to one side tof the area)
• Starboard (run to the other side)
• Captains Comming Aboard (Stand to attention and Salute)
• Submarines (Lie on the floor)
• Hoist the Mainsail (run on the spot - like climing the rigging)
• Mess Deck (Sit cross legged on the floor - ready for lunch)
• Davey Jones (Climb a tree, stanbd on a chair - anything so that you are not on the floor)
• Up Periscope (Stand up straight and old hands to eyes as though looking through binoculars)

British Bulldog
Caution: This game can get rough. All the players (except one) line up at one side of the playing area. The remaining player (The Bulldog) stands in the middle. When he is ready, he shouts "Go" and all the other players have to get to the other side without being caught. Any player the The Bulldog can lift off the ground while he shouts "British Bulldog", joins him in the middle as a Bulldog. On subsequent runs, the Bulldogs may work together. The winner is the last one to be caught.

Mummies
Split the patry goers into teams of three and give each team a toilet roll. Two persons then wrap the third in the toilet roll so that they look like an Egyptian Mummy. The winning team is the one who in a set time (say 2 minutes) have the neatest and most covered Mummy.

Stations
Everyone stands a circle (except one who is standing in the middle) and has been told to remember a different station name. The person in the middle calls out two names. The stations have to change places quickly, before the person in the middle can get to one of the empty spaces. Who ever is left without a place is the person in the middle for the next game.

Sleeping Pirate
All the children (except one - The Pirate) sit Cross Legged on the floor in a circle. The pirate sites Cross-legged in the middle of the circle, blind-folded, with a large bunch of keys on the floor in front of him. A child is nominated to creep up and take the keys and then return to their place, without the pirate hearing them. The Pirate has three goes to point to where he thinks the raider is. If he is sucessful, the raider becomes the Pirate.

Balloon Pop
Place notes inside un-inflated balloons,1 or 2 of the notes should indicate that this balloon is a winner. Inflate the balloons and hang them around. Let each child pick a balloon then pop it to see if their note is a winner.

Balloon Relay
Divide the children into 2 or more equal teams and stand them in a line. Give each team ten balloons in a basket. The first in each line takes a balloon and runs to the other side of the room/yard/area and sits or stomps on the balloon to pop it. After poping the balloon they run back to the line and tag the next person who does the same thing. The game goes on until one team has poped all of their balloons. The winning team gets a small prize (like a ribbon) while EVERYONE gets a small toy.

Toy Walk
This is done like a cake walk. Have numbers on the ground for as many children (1-10). Walk on the numbers until the music stops. Have numbers on some small toys. If a child is standing on the number of the toy, they win the toy

Whistling Crackers
You give every child 3 soda crackers. When you say "GO" every child puts all the crackers at once in his/her mouth. The first one to whistle wins. (You can also substitute the soda crackers with peanut butter but make sure there are no Allergies).

Can You Guess
Put several small items into a brown paper bag. Blindfold one person and hand them one of the items in the bag. Give them a few seconds to guess what the item is. If they are unsuccessful they are out. The last one wins.

Stuck in the Mud
One person is 'IT' and has to run round touching as many people aas they can. When they have touched someone, that person has to stop and stand with their legs apart and
their hands outstreached, until someone crawls through their legs. If you've been caught three times, then you are out. The game ends when everyone left is standing still.
